After the Cherokee were forced further west in the s, the Native trading crossroads in the area fell out of use.
Today, this rural small town is popular for its peaceful parks, nature areas, and museums. Knoxville was founded in as the first capital of Tennessee. Since the development of the city, it has had a long and rich history. Gatlinburg is nice, alot to do but VERY crowded all the time, Townsend is so nice, not alot to do but def one of my favorite places to relax, Pigeon Forge is another jam packed tourist attraction.
Murfreesboro, Franklin,Cleveland and any city in Shelby County are not small towns. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are always crowded with tourists. Try to get around in these cities.

It can take nearly 2hrs on a busy summer weekend just to get from Sevierville to Gatlinburg on Folly Parton Pkwy. If you go to Cades Cove your looking at sitting in that traffic for 5 hours.
