Rhode Island School of Design Continuing Education online classes offer accessible, flexible and immersive learning experiences that you can access from anywhere in the world, at any time of day or night. Asynchronous discussions, course materials and assignments can be taken from anywhere in the world and at any time of day or night, as they do not meet live.
Each course will have various touch points and due dates for assignments and communication between students and instructor, and between peers. Interaction in these courses will take place through tutorials, responding to prompts, participating in discussions and sharing work. Sharing work and getting feedback or guidance from the instructor as well as giving and receiving suggestions from your peers happens frequently.
Conversations, engagement and instruction will be happening online, but not necessarily in real-time. When you register for a class the individual instructor will let you know their expectations for the class. While online learning offers great flexibility, the courses are not self-paced, and you will need to check in regularly to keep up with workload.
Please note that some instructors will offer virtual office hours where video or telephone conversations will occur, and others will include projects where small groups of students will meet through the video conferencing platform Zoom.
In some online programs, students will interact with their instructor and peers in two ways: through live Zoom sessions and through our online course management system.
The instructor uses a mix of live and recorded video sessions to respond to student images and discussion posts, invites students to share in progress work, presents projects and ideas, and connects one-on-one and in small groups—providing direct and responsive support for advanced learning.
These courses are a mix of synchronous live and asynchronous recorded activities. This means:. Additional course materials are hosted by our course management system. All of our online courses synchronous and asynchronous allow you to connect, engage and create using our online course management system.
